Utrera’s arts and crafts are mostly related to the town’s religious festivals, amenco and the countryside. Curious visitors can discover the craftsmanship in the form of GILDED AND POLYCHROMED PIECES, amenco dresses, LEATHERWORK AND BULLFIGHTING PARAPHERNALIA in the numerous workshops throughout the town. Utrera is also traditionally known for FURNITURE RESTORATION.

They sell garrochas (long rods with steel tips for bullfighting), picas (lances) and burladeros (barriers).

Encarnación Hurtado is a sculptor and painter of religious images from Utrera. She inherited her passion of sculpture from her father, who passed his knowledge on to her, using materials like clay or wood at an early age, as well as applying techniques such as polychromy. She gained important knowledge about volumes, anatomy and proportions and delved further into studying the masters of the Escuela Sevillana, her closest role models: Juan Martínez Montañés, Juan de Mesa, Pedro Roldán, his daughter Luisa Roldán, etc. She also has a keen interest in the art of Sculptors from Granada such as Pedro de Mena, José Risueño and Torcuato Ruiz del Peral, and Castilian sculptors who include Jerónimo Hernández or Francisco del Rincón. Her passion for art and culture led her to become interested in painting and, her musical preferences include Pre-Renaissance choral tradition. Encarnación Hurtado’s artistic production, full of technical abilities and a true awareness of the Baroque spirit, foretell a career advancement which far exceeds being reputable. Gold and silver embroidery workshop in the heart of Utrera’s old town. With eighteen years of experience as an embroiderer, Inmaculada García-Rayo has carried out numerous works throughout her professional career. These include a silver mesh sash for Utrera’s Virgen de la Paz (Our Lady of Peace), a gold-embroidered Ottoman dress for Utrera’s Virgen de los Angeles (Our Lady of Angels), gold embroidered exterior and interior ‘bambalinas’ for the canopy of the float of Utrera’s ‘Virgen de las Lágrimas’ (literally Virgin of Tears), or the restoration and refurbishment of the Coronation robe of Our Lady of Consolation, the Patron Saint of Utrera, among many other works, some of them carried out altruistically.
