Écija is fortunate to possess a rich arts and crafts tradition, with a multitude of products, ranging from ceramics to delicate goldwork embroidery.

Visitors can explore the town’s workshops and discover CERAMICS, CARPENTRY, IRONMONGERY, BOOKBINDING AND LEATHERWORK created by meticulous craftspeople.

Many artisans produce items related to Easter Week, including IMAGE MAKERS AND RESTORERS, SCULPTORS, EMBROIDERERS AND CARPENTERS.

Jesús Richarte Imagery and sculpture workshop

Jesús Richarte joined Seville School of Art in 2013, obtaining a degree in Applied Arts in Sculpture. He subsequently obtained knowledge in wood carving, polychromy and clay modelling from various workshops. In 2015, he set up his own workshop in Ecija where he began working on important imagery projects for Holy Week in different cities around Spain.

This workshop is located in the town of Ecija well-known as “City of the Horse”. They are leathercraft workers since 1850. It provides hardware for saddlery and different leatherworks related to the equestrian sector.

Jesús Rosado Borja set up his own embroidery studio in 1990 and has been commissioned throughout Spain and even by the Vatican City state. He has also collaborated with the University of Seville’s History of Art Department to compile a catalogue of embroidered works.
