This pastry shop, Pastelería Diego Vázquez, is linked to the recent history of the mostachón, a sweet treat that is quintessentially from Utrera.
Mostachones were a popular recipe in many convents and castles in Utrera until 1880, when José Romero, Diego Vázquez's great-grandfather, established the town's first bakery and mostachón factory. Since then, five generations have worked in the business. In addition to their specialty, the mostachón, the confectionery also offers sponge cakes, olive oil cakes, traditional sweets from the Poor Clare nuns, cream sticks and wafer rolls, olive oil tarts, old-fashioned olive oil cakes, and Moroccan sweets, among other treats.
