The Mercado de Abastos (Central Market) is a public building created to centralize the food trade of Écija at the beginning of the reign of Isabella II, specifically in 1844. It is located on the site of the former San Fulgencio College of the Society of Jesus. Its construction was sponsored by the Development Society, established in 1843 by Don José Angulo Lasso de la Vega, Marquis of Arenal, since the old Jesuit building was partially demolished in 1842.

The market stalls are arranged around a cloister. This building has been restored by the municipal corporation, providing it with all the amenities and hygiene measures required for this type of building.
