The Campiña Sevillana nature trail takes the same route as the stretch of the Marchena-Valchillón railway line that once ran through the town of Écija.
Compañía de Ferrocarriles Andaluces railway company completed the Marchena-Valchillón railway line in 1885. It was 91.386 kilometres long and the original route was planned to go from Marchena to Montilla and join with the Córdoba-Málaga line. The original design was later modified, when the Écija-Montilla stretch was replaced by the Écija-Valchillón stretch, where it linked up with the Córdoba line. With this line, the Andalusian Railway Company introduced an alternative to the Córdoba-Sevilla line, which was run by Compañía de Ferrocarriles MZA. Later, because of the expense of maintaining the line, RENFE closed it in 1971.
Écija’s town council bought the land that covered the railway line and where this natural trail now stands from RENFE in 1986.
Distance: 30 km.
