One of Alcalá la Real’s most attractive moments is during autumn, mainly in November: when the Sumac trees blossom. The Sumac Trail allows us to admire the unique reddish tone that sweeps over the landscape during this time of the year.

The Sumac Trail starts in Alcalá la Real’s town centre and covers 5.5 kilometres through the Tajos area, which is undoubtedly one of the most characteristic landscapes that surrounds the town. This trail is rated as easy and hikers can observe rock vegetation found on the cliff walls and several “wasps’ nests”: holes caused by the wind, which looks like honeycomb.

The first part of the trail ascends the upper part of the cliffs using the ‘Camino del Portillo’ (Portillo trail), where we can admire a spectacular panoramic view.
