Alfonso XI ordered its construction after conquering the town in 1341, under the advocation of Santo Domingo de Silos, co-patron saint of Alcalá la Real. Located in the old outskirts of the medieval fortress, it was built on the site of the ancient mosque, reusing the minaret as the church’s tower.
