This natural spot is important internationally as several bird species rest here during migration. Located on the rugged land of the Río Genil’s riverbed, there is thick vegetation consisting mainly of bulrushes, canes and reeds alongside stretches of lilies and rushes.

Given its proximity to the South Córdoba natural lagoon reserve, Malpasillo reservoir becomes even more interesting for nesting and hibernating purposes. As such, many species can be easily spotted, such as stiff-tailed ducks, northern shovellers, mallards, common pochards, Eurasian coots, common moorhens, western marsh harriers, purple herons, grey herons, and little grebes.

The presence of flamingos, storks, avocets and Kentish and little ringed plovers has been recovered recently.

Active tourism, such as hiking and rafting can be enjoyed at this natural spot.
