Iglesia del Valle. Parroquia de la Sagrada Familia (church)

The church was founded outside the city walls by the Discalced Franciscans (Alcantarinos) in 1713, and was formally the Virgen del Valle chapel.It was disentailed in 1835, and was not occupied by another community until the end of the last century.It was a shelter for the Ancianos Desamparados for many years, until the beginning of the 80s, when it was used by the Jesús Abandonado homeless charity.Significant restoration works have been carried out on the church,which is relatively small and consists of a single floor with side chapels.It has an impressive main altarpiece created by Juan Abundio de Burgosbetween 1760 and 1763 with carved and gilded Flanders pine.The Virgen del Valle semi-circular chapel opening occupies the central aisle.
