This gateway is thought to date back to the second half of the 15th century. It is not part of the medieval town’s walled enclosure, but is in fact the flour mill’s millrace, which had to go over the public path that runs underneath it.To this end, a vaulted walkway was constructed, surmounted by a blind arch with protruding springers. The entire factory was built with travertine stone and in some areas the natural substrate was reused.
This structure has great historic value, as it is the only preserved monumental civil architecture from the end of the Middle Ages in the town centre. This is the starting point for the walk that winds along the Bajo Adarve, reaching the Puerta del Sol, in the la Villa neighbourhood.
